Security Gates

Security gates are structures that are used to block an entrance or an exit for security purposes.  It can be installed in the place of a door, in a hallway, in addition to a door or in a cage form around a doorway.  They are mostly installed to prevent any form of crime or escape, or prevent entry from unwanted parties to a particular area.  They are normally locked and controlled by the owner or proprietor of the building.

Generally speaking a normal door is not strong enough to prevent entry as it can be kicked in or broken through even if it is locked.  In other cases, ventilation is needed and it is dangerous to leave a door standing open, such as a back or kitchen door.  In other cases, it is dangerous to open a door to parties outside.  In all of these cases, the door can be made safe by adding a security gate which will close with or without the door.  Security gates can also be connected to alarm systems which will go off if the gate is opened or breached in any way.  Security gates are usually fitted with deadbolts or strong locks which cannot be tampered with or broken very easily.  Some security gates are reinforced with frames or plates which will add extra strength to the structure, and to prevent it from being pulled out of the frame.  Some gates can be shut and locked in one swift movement in order to protect against an intruder who is about to attack or trying to gain entry.

Security gates and burglar bars normally send out a very strong message that no entry to that area is allowed unless approved by the inhabitants of that area.  It demarcates the boundaries, keeps inhabitants safe and keeps unwanted parties outside.

It is recommended that the types of security gates are very carefully researched in order to make a well informed decision when it comes to choosing a suitable security gate for an area.  The operation of the gate is also essential when considering the area where it is to be installed – for instance, in small spaces it is advisable to get a security gate that can concertina open and closed.
