Security gates are structures that are used to block an entrance or an exit for security purposes. It can be installed in the place of a door, in a hallway, in addition to a door or in a cage form around a doorway. They are mostly installed to prevent any form of crime or escape, or prevent entry from unwanted parties to a particular area. They are normally locked and controlled by the owner or proprietor of the building.

Some gates can be shut and locked in one swift movement in order to protect against an intruder who is about to attack or trying to gain entry.
Security gates and burglar bars normally send out a very strong message that no entry to that area is allowed unless approved by the inhabitants of that area. It demarcates the boundaries, keeps inhabitants safe and keeps unwanted parties outside.

The operation of the gate is also essential when considering the area where it is to be installed – for instance, in small spaces it is advisable to get a security gate that can concertina open and closed.
