Questions After Car Theft At Mall

A Mr Alex Strachan was left with more questions than answers after his VW Microbus was stolen from The Pavilion Shopping Centres parking area, but later recovered by their tracking company in Lamontville. He had gone shopping with his wife and left the vehicle parked in the secure parking lot with a security guard nearby. However, when he returned, he could not find it. At first Mr Strachan thought he had forgotten where he had parked, but he eventually came to the conclusion that the vehicle had been stolen.

This is when car insurance becomes crucial to have.

He then asked for the assistance of the security guard about the whereabouts of the VW Microbus, but, according to Mr Strachan, all he did was smile when questioned. The security guard then went on to make a gesture with his index finger across his throat and said that ‘’they’’ would kill him if he said anything.

The security office was not any more helpful either. Mr Strachan says that the video footage of the parking lot has a clear picture of him arriving with his wife. However, when it came time to show what happened when the car was stolen, the image is blurry. This enraged Mr Strachan who wanted to know why the picture became blurry at that exact moment as the cameras would have helped to identify the thieves.

The Pavilion Mall’s general manager, Anton Dekker declined to comment about the incident but only stated that Mr Strachan was threatening to go to the press. Dekker also said that no vehicles had been stolen since December, after a new boom gate and pay parking were introduced in November. However, the tracking company that recovered Mr Strachan’s vehicle says that they have responded to three car thefts from the Pavilion since December.

To create further confusion, Mr Strachan says the mall’s security refused to show him footage of the vehicle leaving the mall. He also wanted to know how his car could have gone through the boom gates and yet he still had the parking card on him.
Hopefully the police will be able to provide answers for him as they continue with the investigation.
