Securing Savoy Estate's blend of established homes and complex perimeters
Savoy Estate is about 3 km south-east of Sandton City. In Savoy Estate, electric fences are often fitted to a mix of perimeters, from the original brick walls of freestanding homes to the precast boundaries of apartment blocks. On streets like Hamlin Street and Stirling Street, mature gardens are a key feature, meaning tree branches and dense creepers constantly threaten the fence lines. Decades-old walls can also present issues, with cracks or previous height extensions causing brackets to become loose and wires to sag over time.
Our approach in Savoy Estate is to assess the entire boundary structure, not just the fence itself. Where mature trees overhang, we use offset brackets to create clearance. We inspect every bracket fixing, especially on older or altered walls, to make sure the fence remains taut and effective. We also pay close attention to the earthing system, as the performance of older installations can be compromised by degraded earth spikes, a common fault we find in established suburbs.
When selling a freestanding home in Savoy Estate, the property owner arranges for the Electric Fence System Certificate. This is usually asked for by banks or in the sale agreement for any transfer after 1 October 2012, regardless of the fence's age. For sectional title units, the certificate applies to the whole perimeter and is held by the body corporate. We recommend booking an inspection when you list to allow time for repairs. Tyson is registered with the Department of Employment and Labour as an electric fence installer and proof of registration is available on request.
Everything we install and repair, and how a job runs from first call to handover, is on our electric fencing page.
Questions from Savoy Estate
My boundary wall has been raised in sections over the years. Can the existing electric fence be neatened up?
Yes. We can refit the existing fence by replacing brackets, re-tensioning the wires, and making sure all sections are properly aligned and connected. This improves both its appearance and its effectiveness.
I'm on the body corporate for a complex in Savoy Estate. Our fence is old but works. Do we need a certificate?
A certificate is needed if the fence is significantly altered or a new energiser is fitted. It is also often requested by managing agents. We can inspect the perimeter and provide a report on what's needed for compliance.
