River club: systems for estates, freestanding homes and spruit boundaries
River Club is about 4 km north of Sandton City. In River Club, security systems must cater for both sprawling freestanding homes and the shared perimeters of secure estates. Properties backing onto the Braamfontein Spruit or with views over the golf course often have long, established boundary lines where mature trees and dense gardens can create significant blind spots.
Our approach is to work with the landscape. We plan camera positions to look along walls rather than through foliage that will obscure the view. For sectional title complexes and estates, the focus is on securing the perimeter and monitoring access gates with dedicated cameras. On larger individual properties, we make sure key areas like the main gate and house entrances are covered from practical angles that account for the garden's layout.
In River Club's many complexes and estates, the footage from perimeter and gate cameras belongs to the body corporate. Trustees must manage who has access, for how long footage is stored, and make sure signage is in place. The Information Regulator has proposed a code of conduct for gated communities that addresses this. If you have recently bought a freestanding home, it is important to have the passwords for any existing cameras changed.
Everything we install and repair, and how a job runs from first call to handover, is on our CCTV cameras page.
Questions from River Club
Our estate's managing agent and guards both need access to the cameras. How do we control who sees what?
We create separate, password-protected logins for each user. This allows a managing agent to view all cameras and recordings, while guards might only see live views of the gates. When someone's role changes, their specific login can be easily removed.
My garden has large trees that move in the wind. Will they constantly trigger motion alerts?
No. We define specific motion detection zones for each camera. This tells the system to ignore movement from swaying trees or bushes and only alert you to activity in key areas, such as along a pathway or at your gate.
Tell us what you have in River Club now and what is going wrong, and we will tell you plainly whether it needs a repair, an upgrade or a new CCTV camera system, then put the quote in writing.
