Illovo: cameras for apartment entrances and office access points
Illovo is about 2 km south of Sandton City. In Illovo, apartment buildings and office developments place much of the camera work at shared entrances, parking access points and pedestrian doors. Traffic moving between Sandton City and Rosebank can make the approaches from Oxford Road, Corlett Drive and nearby streets busy, so one wide entrance view may not show enough detail when several people or vehicles arrive together.
For an Illovo building, we separate the overview from the closer entrance view. We position cameras where vehicles slow and people pass through a controlled doorway, then check glare, night lighting and the recorder’s actual footage. Where an existing Illovo system has sound cabling, we assess whether it can be reused for an HD analogue upgrade instead of replacing every cable.
In an Illovo sectional title complex, trustees and the managing agent should agree who may view or export footage, how requests are recorded, where signs are needed and how long recordings are kept. The Information Regulator has proposed a code for gated communities that would stop footage being kept indefinitely, but it is not law. We give authorised users separate logins so access can be removed without sharing one password around the building.
Everything we install and repair, and how a job runs from first call to handover, is on our CCTV cameras page.
Questions from Illovo
Can our Illovo complex use separate cameras for cars and pedestrians?
Yes. We can use an overview camera for the entrance and tighter views where vehicles slow or people use the pedestrian door.
Who should export footage from our Illovo apartment building?
Trustees should nominate a small number of authorised people, such as a trustee or managing agent. Each should have a separate login, and exports should be recorded.
Tell us what you have in Illovo now and what is going wrong, and we will tell you plainly whether it needs a repair, an upgrade or a new CCTV camera system, then put the quote in writing.
