Of course you will have the system monitored so that the relevant authorities can be alerted should anything occur on the property, but you are also going to need this team to be able to care for and maintain the system to ensure its longevity.  CCTV maintenance is something that you are going to have ensure, is occurring on an ongoing basis.

Some CCTV maintenance tips to think about and consider include the following:

  • Make sure that only regulated power suppliers are used for the actual installation of your CCTV system.
  • Make sure that your system does not overheat or lose voltage. This is done by constantly checking to see that each power supply used has 40% spare capacity as a minimum.
  • Always ensure that the camera power supplies have proper and unobstructed ventilation.
  • Make sure that you are not operating your CCTV system on the same power supply circuit as escalators, elevators, compressors, generators and motors.
  • Check to see that cable ties used during the cabling process are not fixed too tight or become too tight over time.
  • Check regularly to ensure that the camera and equipment are not over heating by direct sunlight – if this is the case, look into heat proof housing or having the area shaded.
  • The quality of your recording can only be ensured of the VCR is serviced regularly.
  • An important part of the CCTV maintenance process when setting up your security system is never to use your recording tapes more than 12 times. Over using these will cause for poor recordings and unreliable content.

These are just a few of the considerations to have when trying to keep your CCTV system operating to the best of its ability and providing your with a long lasting and durable service. CCTV maintenance of course goes further and beyond these pointers and there is always something to check and service.

Of course if anything goes wrong, make sure that you contact the installation team ASAP to avoid losing potentially useful data recording opportunities and putting your property and those on it, at risk.
