Who Is Responsible For Company Security

Within security companies, there is a general accountability for what happens both within the company and to the company’s clients, but in a normal company that functions as a sales, construction or even advertising company, who hold the responsibility of security?

Some companies will bring in a private security company to fill the security role, but in essence security is everyone’s responsibility. A security guard company may be able to patrol the perimeter of the building and solve the problem of criminals quickly, but within a company, every employee is responsible for ensuring that the information and assets of the company are secure. This can mean anything from ensuring they do not download files with viruses, to making sure their laptop is locked up tight at night.

Every organisation should have a company security policy to ensure that employees understand what security precautions they should take, and how to enforce this security. This could include using tags at doorways to access certain areas, or even just ensuring that they question strange faces they haven’t seen before in the office. In some cases, companies will employ a global security company to assess the company’s effectiveness in managing their own security and make recommendations on how they become more secure.

Companies’ security is vital, especially in industries where there is industrial espionage. Companies can measure their success in the work that they do, and if they do not protect that work, or the materials they need to do the work, they may find themselves in the unfortunate position of losing business. In this case, they may call in a business security company to assist them with making the company more secure, and will definitely have to enlist the help of staff to ensure that no information is leaked, no assets are lost and that the business can continue to make a profit.

Though this is a lot of administration, it is vital that companies address their shortcomings in security so that they do not suffer losses. If there were fire because of negligence for example, this would be a security issue, just as criminal threats and internet security threats would be too.
