The roads are becoming increasingly dangerous and unfortunately all the construction projects on the roads are not making it any easier. Therefore a traffic protection plan is imperative. It does not only protect the drivers but the workers on these construction sites as well. Their lives are just as much in danger as yours, if not maybe even more so. Unfortunately the drivers get impatient and don’t abide by the slower speed limit applicable to certain areas and end up being responsible for the thousands of people killed annually. These construction areas are a dangerous area for not just workers and motorists but pedestrians as well. Slow down when asked to do so. The warning signs and speed limits are there for a reason.
The risks to road safety in these construction areas are a big problem. There are a couple of main reasons why injury and sometimes death occurs at these construction sites on the road. The number one cause is the speeding traffic. Sometimes drivers do not even notice any road workers because of inadequate warning signs. Another big distraction is drivers talking on their cell phones while entering these construction areas. Many drivers like to push past the slow traffic and get as close to the front where the traffic merge into one line and if the other cars won’t give a gap the driver ends up entering the dangerous work zone which is a great danger to the workers.
What can be done to protect the traffic and the workers? A project known as the Intelligent Transport System has been developed and tested and did show a fast improvement in traffic management and road safety. What does this involve? CCTV monitoring is the most significant aspect which will allow for immediate response by the emergency services in case of an accident. The traffic will be monitored and managed properly. The Traffic Management Centre will be able to keep the traffic management services up to date with any changes in traffic and will also be able to update the signal timing which will allow for effective managing of traffic in case of an accident or breakdown in traffic.
