Garage Door Prices

Making home improvements is a popular choice for many South Africans.  While costly, these improvements can enhance the overall value of one’s property and add enhanced security benefits.  One substantial home improvement that has grown to become a standard in South Africa is building a garage to securely house one’s car. This extra space offers shelter and security whereby your car is protected from both the elements and the possibility of theft. A closed garage also offers many South African homes a badly needed storage space.

While not the most attractive building and not one where we reside, a garage can house some of our most valuable possessions. Not only in terms of our car but any stored items too. A garage however isn’t complete until a garage door is fitted to allow access while securely locking your contents inside. The garage door can be a large part of the combined cost of building a garage. Over the years, garage doors have developed from the simpler chromadek roller types to large double vehicular sized wooden doors that are powered by a motor.

Garage door prices reflect the various sizes and materials used for the door. Additionally should the consumer require an automated garage door the cost of the motor can vary substantially depending on the size required to lift the particular door. The combined cost of door, motor and remote should be about R9 500 for a single meranti garage door. This would be somewhere around the R5 500 mark without the motor. A double meranti garage door will cost about R16 000, or R13 000 without a motor. A single chromadek (metallic) roll-up door is the cheapest option at R3 500. A price that will double if one wants a motor with remote control.

Garage doors are not cheap but many South African homeowners will be willing to pay for the enhanced garage door motor and remote as it makes life more convenient and adds value to the overall property.  It is essential that these doors be serviced and maintained however for safety reasons and to cut down on the cost of replacement.
