Alarm Systems In South Africa

It is important that we protect the possessions and people that are important to us:  our homes, jewellery, clothing, home appliances, vehicles, family and pets are all important to us for one reason or another.  In order to ensure the safety of these people and items, we employ all kinds of security measures which may include things like insurance and security around the home or office, which will quite often include alarm systems.

Alarm systems are normally categorized according to how the system works, how it is activated and what kind of features it has.

The typical alarm system will be a loud sound that gets activated upon a particular action. There are systems with sensors for light, movement, breakage of a circuit, camera, infrared technology, and any of these could set off an alarm which will then alert inhabitants, neighbours, police or the contracted security firm to some activity taking place which needs to be examined.  Alarm systems usually function with electricity, and sometimes it is possible to run a system with batteries.  Alarm technology is so modern that it can now communicate which sensor was disturbed via the internet.

We now install alarms just about anywhere – in our cars, homes and offices, and our insurance providers quite often require the presence of a working alarm system in order for a possession to be insured.  Alarms do not always have to make a massive noise- some alarms are silent and will alert the contracted security company without any sound being made on site by the alarm system.  Alarm systems can be stationary or mobile by nature.  A home alarm is considered stationary, whereas mobile alarms are fitted to vehicles, boats or caravans.  Personal alarm systems are also mobile alarm technology.

Typically, alarm and security technology will detect movement or intrusion through sensors. Alarm security can also be utilized for the detection of fire.  Some alarm systems are coupled to an extended security system which may sense smoke and then send a message to the fire brigade while activating a sprinkler system in order to prevent fire damage.  Separate smoke alarms can also be used in the home for smoke detection and to alert inhabitants to the presence of smoke, and perhaps a flame.
