Just Got To Keep Up With The Joneses

At One Point Security we have a number of phrases we use when it comes to electric fencing and residential security.

Keep up with the Jonses” and “Always on” when it comes to family security keeping up with the Jonses and being “always on” is vital. Criminals look for weaknesses in perimeter security and target paths of least resistance. If your neighbour has an electric fence and you don’t the weak spot becomes your property.

Keeping up with what neighbouring complexes or properties are doing is vital to ensuring that you don’t get targeted next.

Too often we see the situation where “there has never been a break-in before” coincides with “Oh look the Jonses have a new electric fence”. More often than not, the neighbouring “Joneses” have all upped their game leaving one particular complex or house more venerable to criminal scrutiny.

Lastly, but not least

better-stuff

And that’s all it takes.

People assume the status quo will remain but a stark reality is that criminals are opportunists and they continually look for soft targets. When comparing your property to the rest of your surrounding properties is it or has it become a soft target?

Criminals fixate on these “visibly weaker targets” and then study goings on of that property in particular, excluding the others in the area that might yield more value to them.

So it makes sense to “not become the target” and to keep an eye on security upgrades that your neighbours, particularly with respect to visible perimeter upgrades like electric fences, spikes and automated gates and garage doors.

Always on

The next party trick is to make sure the electric fence, garage door, electric gate are always on and working. There is no point if you can simply push open an electric gate or lift up a garage door. Cheap knock off motors or mechanisms. Incorrect installations or ageing systems can all play a part in operationl failures.

Always be testing your security, or someone else will for you.

All these items need to be checked and breach tested. Years of operation and abuse from wear and tear and weather can lead to problem with the overall security.

Often one wont know the property is being targeted until it’s too late. Many criminals can tell an electric fence is on just by standing next to it. Certainly withing a couple of seconds they can trigger an event and step away from the scene to monitor what happens thereafter. It’s easy enough to walk up to an automatic gate or garage door and just push on it just to see if the motor couplings are working or if the gate can be lifted.

Not against the law.

Even if some criminal is caught red handed triggering your electric fence, or pushing open your front gate in broad daylight what do you think is going to happen to them? Even if your security company takes them away, unless you press charges without stolen property the police can’t even arrest them?

The point is targeted sites usually have a number of minor perimeter infractions and security interrogations before the property is targeted to be robbed.

One Point has a scheduled service that will periodically come and pop in an provide a full security audit of your property. We can charge a simple once off call out and assess the security for insurance purposes.
